Taiwan - Day 2

The 2nd day. It was just roaming around. But we discovered quite a bit of things.
We went to the SOGO department store, but the things are so expensive that we got bored and walked on the streets.
We bought an International Calling Card (ICC) to call back to Singapore. But we were so confused with the instructions in Chinese that we had to walk for more than an hour to search for the Customer Service Centre (CSC) for the Telecom.


While searching for the CSC, we found the Bear House and Cafe with loads of bears of various sizes. And we weren't even in the least shameless to just get into the shop to take lots of photos.

and finally reached the CSC. It's so amazing that we could even make our way there by walking in a place alien to us!

(Samuel thinks he's thin) we called back to talk to our parents. Expectedly, I was on the phone for the longest. hahaha




After the painful search, we looked at the map and headed towards the Taichung Park (cos we saw that there are boats in the river and it looks appealing to us).On our way, we passed by the Smelly Tofu stall by the roadside and we couldn't resist it. It tasted greeeeeeeeeeat! 40 years of Smelly Tofu ehhh. Don't siao siao.



And so we headed towards the park by feet. The weather was so unexpectedly hot, unlike the weather forecast which says 16 - 20 degree celsius X(

The first time I saw an empty swimming pool in my life.




And we finally made our way to the park with the help of the map I brought and Kenneth's map reading skills. HAHAHA. The ah peks in Taiwan really play chess in the park one lei. Just like those I saw on tv. It's like a chess party!




YES! The boats! we get to row the boats! muahahaha


As the saying goes 船到桥头自然直 "chuan dao qiao tou zi ran zhi". We were testing if the saying is right.



Only until after rowing the boat then we know that Kenneth has a fear of water. HAHA!

Went for steamboat dinner.

Then shopped at another night market called 一中一街 "Yi Zhong Yi Jie". All the night markets are similar, like bugis street but a lot bigger, opened till 1am. They have food stalls and shops. As we spent too much on the first day, we came up with a "fund" whereby all of us will put in the same amount for the travelling and food expenses. Hence we do not have to worry about who to pay for the cab fare and food and who owes who money. How clever of us!

I sent the present to her doorstep personally. (see how sweet i am? XP)

And she thought the toy box was just a fake. It was really a toy inside the box.
Then we had our late dinner at Coffee Club.

We're very gei gao, didn't want to pay Coffee Club $10 just to cut a cake, so we settled outside Ngee Ann City and we sang the birthday song so loud that everyone was staring at us. (just to embarrass her)

We saved $10! YAY


Then we went to The Mind Cafe at Prinsep Street (opposite Paradiz centre, near Rochor Beancurd) to spend our time. The Mind Cafe is like Settlers where you snack and play games at the same time. Really good deal of business to do.The first game. We had such a hard time remembering the animals of the other players. It's a game of memory, speed and voice!
The Truth or Dare Jenga. So exciting and stressed.

The stressest game of all. It's like Heart Attack, only that Heart Attack has 4 cards, this has 9 cards. Each player has a designated colour and we have to exchange with each other. (eg I have 9 cards of different colours in my hand, I need 9 blue cards in order to get a bone. You can exchange up to 3 cards in a time and you can exchange with anyone.) Imagine that we're all calling out "3 cards! 3 cards! 2 cards!!" all in a different direction and everyone's just throwing the cards around. So hectic and exciting and stressed. The first player who has all 9 cards of its colour will grab a bone from the table. Then the rest will grab a bone too. The player without a bone loses.



The last game which works like Bridge. You do not know who's your partner, ie good or bad. The good ones have to build the road towards the gold (3 cards facing down at the end, but we have no idea which one has a gold) with the cards in hand, while the bad ones have to mislead the goldminers and build a different path so that the goldminers do not get the gold by the time the cards in hand are finished. So we do not know who's lying and who's not. A hard game of judgment.


Overall, it was a fun day.

Taiwan - Day 1

I'm finally getting my ass down to write about my Taiwan trip that happened 1 month ago.
It'll still take me some time to update as it is an 11-day trip!
Let's get it started.

6 audacious youths met up at Changi Airport, anticipating the waited-for-so-long trip!
The 6 of them are - Xiang Ni, Joan, Kenneth, Samuel, Laura and Shiying.

Touchdown at Taipei CKS airport



On our way to Taichung. It's so amazing we could make it to Taiwan and could make our way around it.

The 6 of us squeeeeezed into the normal 4-pax taxi with our huge luggages and headed to our hotel.


We finally arrived at our first hotel at around 9pm after hours of travelling. The Grand Hotel (we gotta say the hotel name and road names in Chinese to the taxi driver). Had a bit of problems initially. gosh. Try saying “大哥，我们要去上豪大饭店，在文心路三段362號”




LCD tv ehhhh.

Visited the 1st night market - 逢甲夜市 "Feng Jia" night market. The night markets in Taiwan are opened till 1am. They are always crowded, but more crowded on the weekends (just like Chinatown during Chinese New Year). They are just like Bugis Street with a wider road, and so many times bigger with so many more shops and food. Almost all the apparels are a lot cheaper in Feng Jia than those in Singapore.

We bought a lot of food from the stalls in the market.

The smelly tofu which I had always wanted to try. This is only the first one which we tried. We tried a total of 3! They do not stink as much as I expected and they really taste good that I was addicted to it. It tastes like tau kua with vege.

Samuel was trying to annoy Joan by acting as the sales assistant of them shop.

I walked past it twice and I didn't notice it until Kenneth told me :O

It's only the 1st day.

Communication problems as our Chinese seriously sucks. HAHA
I'd be back with more updates!

My dear friend whom I've known since Sec 1 in Girl Guides and got closer when we're in the same class in Sec 3 & 4.
