little miss sunshine, eragon.

this 2-week holiday ive been watching a lot of movies.. not to mention those at KJ's house, i watched in the cinemas and of course at home.

Little Miss Sunshine.
Not this:

But this:

Some nice quotes that i derived from the movie:
Dwayne: You know what? Fuck beauty contests. Life is one fucking beauty contest after another. School, then college, then work... Fuck that. And fuck the Air Force Academy. If I want to fly, I'll find a way to fly. You do what you love, and fuck the rest.

Dwayne: I wish I could just sleep until I was eighteen and skip all this crap-high school and everything-just skip it.
Frank
: You know Marcel Proust?
Dwayne
: He's the guy you teach.
Frank
: Yeah. French writer. Total loser. Never had a real job. Unrequited love affairs. Gay. Spent 20 years writing a book almost no one reads. But he's also probably the greatest writer since Shakespeare. Anyway, he uh... he gets down to the end of his life, and he looks back and decides that all those years he suffered, Those were the best years of his life, 'cause they made him who he was. All those years he was happy? You know, total waste. Didn't learn a thing. So, if you sleep until you're 18... Ah, think of the suffering you're gonna miss. I mean high school? High school-those are your prime suffering years. You don't get better suffering than that.
Grandpa: A real loser is someone who's so afraid of not winning he doesn't even try.

It's an interesting and humorous movie depicting a dysfunctional family and how they got together.

The next one's Eragon

the best quote ive got is:
Without fear there cannot be courage.

Fantasy and war.

im bored. haha
my interview sucked.
will cook tmr. arrghh!

Unrepentant ‘Dr. Death’ still advocates right to die

Unrepentant ‘Dr. Death’ still advocates right to die
Dr. Kevorkian also asserts other physicians help ill patients commit suicide
By John Springer
TODAYShow.com contributor
Updated: 11:20 a.m. ET June 5, 2007

Eight years in prison hasn’t changed physician-assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian’s opinion that legislatures can prohibit doctors from helping chronically ill patients end their lives, but no man-made rule can ever take away a person’s “natural right” to decide whether they wish to live or die.

“It is one of our natural rights that we are born with, the right to control the circumstances of one’s own death,” Kevorkian, 79, told TODAY’s Ann Curry on Tuesday during his first live television interview since being released from a Michigan prison last week.

“It can’t be controlled by external forces and be a right,” he told Curry. “The law can block your use of it. That doesn’t mean they destroy the right.”

The media starting calling Kevorkian “Dr. Death” even before several failed attempts by prosecutors in Michigan to send him to prison for murder during the 1990s. Prosecutors finally prevailed in 1999, winning a second-degree murder conviction against Kevorkian for the poisoning death the year before of 52-year-old Thomas Youk, who was suffering from advanced Lou Gehrig’s disease. The assisted suicide aired on CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

Kevorkian has estimated that he participated in more than 130 assisted suicides before Michigan finally won a conviction and sentenced the pathologist to 10 to 25 years in prison.

He claims that the practice remains widespread, even if other physicians aren’t stepping forward as he did to advocate physician-assisted suicide so publicly and brazenly.

“What evidence do you have of that, sir?” Curry asked Kevorkian.

“There have been polls taken of doctors, anonymous polls,” said Kevorkian, whose own license to practice medicine was revoked at the time he helped end Youk’s life. “I think more than half say they have done it before and 30 percent say they do it still.”

No regrets
Although Kevorkian has said he will no longer participate in assisted suicides, he has no regrets about helping to end the life of patients whom he deemed to be suffering and beyond medical help, and who willingly chose to end their lives.

“If a doctor decides, ‘Yes, it’s true. This person has a serious disease. Yes, it’s true. It looks like he’s suffering. And, yes, it’s true. There seems to be nothing that can help him’ — the person has a natural right to request help by a competent professional in ending his life,” Kevorkian said. “And the competent professional has a natural right to accede to that request and help him. Both of those rights [are] blocked by law, that’s all. But that doesn’t destroy the right.”

Apparently, a majority of Americans agree.

A Gallup poll conducted last month found that 71 percent of Americans surveyed feel that doctors should be permitted to end the life of a chronically diseased patient when the patient and his or her family agree to it.

Kevorkian’s attorney, Mayer Morganroth, who appeared on TODAY with him, said his client was always careful to satisfy himself completely that a patient seeking help in ending his or her life was mentally competent to make such a decision. “In any case where there was any doubt about mental capacity, Dr. Kevorkian had them referred to a psychiatrist and got a psychiatrist’s report and analysis of the person’s problems,” Morganroth said.

According to the Web site euthanasia.com, 35 states have enacted statutes criminalizing assisted suicide and nine others bar it as a matter of common law. However, several states’ courts have said assisted suicide is not a crime. Though Oregon is the only state to legalize physician-assisted suicide, California is considering a similar law with procedures physicians would be required to follow.

cyclists of Tampines!

Press Release On
The Cycling On Footways Study In Tampines Town
From 27 May 2007 To 30 May 2008
Jointly Issued By Tripartite Committee Of LTA, TP & Tampines GROs

1. Land Transport Authority (LTA), Traffic Police (TP) and the Tampines Grassroots Organisations (GROs) will be conducting a study in the Tampines Town to assess the feasibility of allowing cycling on footways with effect from 27 May 2007. The study will last for one year and end on 30 May 2008. The official launch of this trial will be on 27 May 2007, in conjunction with the Tampines Town Day.

2. Currently, under Rule 28 of the Road Traffic Rules, enacted in 1981, cycling on footways is prohibited. Like any other vehicles, bicycles are to be ridden on the roads and cyclists are required to abide by all relevant traffic rules and regulations.

3. LTA, TP and Tampines GROs recognise that societal values and lifestyle norms have changed over time. It has been observed that cycling has become increasingly prevalent, both as a recreational activity as well as a mode of transport for short journeys to the markets, school, MRT stations and workplaces located in the neighbourhood.

4. During the Committee of Supply debates in 2005, Senior Minister of State for Law & Home Affairs, A/P Ho Peng Kee, in response to a parliamentary question by Tampines MP Ms Irene Ng, said that the issue of whether or not cycling on footways should be allowed would be reviewed. Tampines GRC was identified as a good area for this study as it is a compact town with a large cycling population, and has well-used park connectors. A Tripartite Committee, co-chaired by LTA, TP and Tampines GROs, was therefore set up to study the feasibility of allowing cycling on footways while ensuring that the safety of other footway users is not compromised.

5. The Tripartite Committee recognizes that road safety requires a collective approach involving all key stakeholders who represent the common interests and concerns of the various road user groups. Therefore, as part of the review, dialogue sessions with the grassroots from the Tampines Constituency, Tampines Town Council, National Safety Council of Singapore (NSCS), Singapore Action Group for the Elders (SAGE), Singapore Amateur Cycling Association (SACA) and Safe Cycling Task Force (SCTF) were conducted to solicit feedback on their concerns. A set of guidelines on safe riding on footways was developed in consultation with them.

6. The study will provide the opportunity for communities with differing demands and needs to come together and work out a mutually beneficial solution in sharing limited common space. In addition, the study will help the Committee understand if Singaporeans are generally ready to share the footways. A survey on the perception and attitudes of the residents in Tampines Town will be carried out.

7. The study will be launched on 27 May 2007 in conjunction with the Tampines Town Day, and conducted over a period of one year. During this period, cycling would be allowed on all footways in Tampines but not in other towns. To protect the safety of pedestrians, cyclists would be required to give way to pedestrians, as well as dismount and push their bicycles at places where human traffic would be high. For their own safety, cyclists are also required to dismount and push their bicycles when crossing a road. Parking of bicycles will remain prohibited on footways. Pedestrians will also be urged to share footways with cyclists and to show mutual consideration.

8. About two weeks before the study, the Tripartite Committee will start conducting a series of public education programmes to increase awareness and promote safe riding on the footways. This will include the dissemination of safe riding guidelines to the residents of Tampines through the various educational outreach channels (e.g., community events) and publicity efforts.

9. In addition, the Tripartite Committee has worked closely with Changi Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC), Tampines NPC, grassroots from Tampines Constituency and SACA to recruit volunteers as cycling wardens under a Community Safety and Security Programme (CSSP). The cycling wardens will be deployed along the footways in Tampines to educate and advise pedestrians and cyclists to share the footways in a safe and gracious manner.

10. In land-scarce Singapore, the majority of footways are narrow. Sharing of footways between pedestrians and cyclists will require both groups of users to exercise social graciousness and responsibility, with cyclists giving the right of way to pedestrians. Cyclists should cycle slowly on the footways and those who wish to cycle faster should be on the roads.

11. Cyclists who wish to cycle on the footways during the study period are advised to adhere to the safe riding guidelines. Police will continue to take action against cyclists who ride recklessly, or in a disorderly manner that endangers other footway users.

lone shop-

I was shopping alone at orchard road yesterday to get my formal attire for internship interviews.
It's the Great Singapore Sale and its packed everywhere. (Hate it!)

Destinations:
  1. Far East Plaza - Shoes
  2. Wisma Atria and Takashimaya - Shirts
2 persons stopped me in a day:
  1. Tourist Guide - This middle-aged man just walked beside me and chatted with me and asked "Are you Japanese or Korean? I'm sure I'm not the only one saying that right?". Then he continued introducing himself, and he speaks Japanese real well. and then he was like trying to psycho me into taking tourism course.. LOL? I don't know whether to laugh or shun away from him? haha. I was wondering how people can just stop and chat with you as if you know that person somewhere. It's not like you're some salesperson or something.
  2. Auntie - I was walking towards the Somerset mrt station, carrying 2 red plastic bags (Pullandbear and Anna Nucci) and this auntie stopped me and asked, "Give me your receipt." while she showed me her Robinsons receipt. I guess she saw them wrongly as the Robinsons bags are red too.
1 person asked me a question:
  1. Tourist (i think she's Chinese, but her English can make it! haha) Where's Guess and Zara?
It's weird how some people can just stop you and ask you for a request or chat with you. And it's weirder that the person just stops and chat with them or answers their questions. All in all, it's just courtesy and politeness.

That's what the Singa is for.
